Thoughts from the Thinky Spots

Thinky Spot noun
  1. Any familiar location frequented for purposes of contemplation, often in the home or a nearby greenspace
  2. This website, dedicated to the mundane, cozy aspects of everyday life, from the portion of my dingus brain with an affinity for nature

Hello there.

My name is Jaron.

Welcome to my electronic Thinky Spot on the World Wide Web, a virtual collection of the musings, media, recipes, joys and inspiration that I take solace in year after year.

Outside of cyberspace, in the corporeal realm, here is a recent history of my Thinky Spots:

2023-2024 Thinky Spot In Absentia

I'm in between homes at the moment, but grateful to have a place to stay.

A Nest of Fairy Lights
I sure do spend a lot of time in bed.
The Bog
Any day that I can go on a hike in the nearby nature reserve is a good one.

2022-2023 The Curs'd Cottage

I so wanted things to work out in this tiny duplex, but it ended up having all the bugs. Constant stochastic insects.

Large Front Window

Going about my day or lying on the couch in front of this honkin' pane of glass made the world outside feel as if it was a terrarium, or as if I was living inside some sort of aquarium, watching the neighborhood regulars pass by:

  • Man Running With Gaiety in High-visibility Jacket
  • Elder Grizzled Lesbian Dogwalker
  • Snippy Steps
  • The Calm, Laidback Rotundity
Backyard Porch
Playing ukulele at dusk as the morose mercury vapor lamp flickered on and off, unsure of whether it wanted to, or was capable of, staying illuminated.
Bedroom Window
A small framed view of the tree and the eave of the front door from bed. A melancholy glimpse of peaceful mornings that could have been, but instead was just bugs.

2018-2022 Thoroughfare Treehouse

I learned so much here, and began my cooking journey in earnest during lockdown, but was pretty isolated. Rising rent pushed me out.

Kitchen Bench
Eating a food, doing a writing, or listening to the mono hi-fi. With a daffodil-colored placemat and a plaid coaster.
Living Room Chair
Sitting and staring out the window like a cat. Often at squirrels, or other humans, or a good weather. In the Spring, waxwings gathering en masse in the cypress tree, and occasionally a chonk of a bumblebee audibly bonking against the window pane.
Bed

A view of the aforementioned cypress tree - in Fall, the fern-like fronds turning from green to orange, the sun shining through the leaves just right, blanketing the whole room in a soothing peach hue. Doing a sleep, or lying on my left side and listening to my pocket radio.

One time a goose got up on the balcony.

Swimming Pool
I love too mindlessly move my body in a repetitive-yet-regimented manner while my dingus brain wanders aimlessly.
